What to Read in an Installment Loan Disclosure
An installment loan disclosure is where a lender states costs and repayment terms in writing. Before you agree, read the amount financed, APR, fees, payment amount and due dates, repayment length, and the total you would repay if you made payments as agreed. Compare those figures for a similar amount and period whenever you can.
Ask how fees are handled. Some charges may reduce the amount you receive; others may be added to the balance. Check what happens if a payment is late, and whether paying early changes the cost. A summary page may not include every condition, so keep a copy of the full disclosure.
